Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to get-away to the mountains for a couple of days to unplug and reconnect with your love.
As a local, I’m excited to share my top 3 romantic activities to take advantage of in beautiful Buena Vista.
Take a walk in in the Riverpark
Hike in the Riverpark downtown, where Main Street butts up against the river. While there are several trails there, ranging in difficulty and length, one hike in particular comes to mind for Valentine’s Day. After you park, grab a map, and walk over the Riverpark bridge. Keep following the trail to the left, and uphill, to the north loop of the Barbara Whipple Trail. There is a clearing and a bench not very far in, with an amazing view of the Collegiate Peaks. It’s one of my favorite spots! This trail is steep at first, but it’s a short climb that’s worth the view, and you can continue hiking the entire loop if you wish, or turn back around. Or you can walk along the river instead for an easier hike.
Visit Cottonwood Hot Springs
Soak at Cottonwood Hot Springs. Cottonwood Hot Springs is about six miles out of town, tucked away in a quiet and secluded spot on Cottonwood Creek. There are four hot pools to choose from, all ranging in temperature, usually from 96-105. Cottonwood is my favorite hot spring because almost every pool is lined with seating and spots to lounge in the water. It’s great to go during the day and keep an eye out for big horned sheep on the mountain, or at night to get a great view of the night sky. Private soaking tubs and massage sessions are available as well.
Treat Yourself with Delicious Food
Dine at the Asian Palate restaurant. The Asian Palate, an Asian fusion restaurant, is by far one of the best restaurants in Buena Vista. Between the unique, skillfully created menu and funky small town ambiance, it’s hard to beat. Even if you don’t like sushi, don’t worry, they have a full menu of other amazing dishes!
